2023 IOTA EU-047 Baltrum
In 2023 we went again to Baltrum for two weeks of family vacation. I was QRV as DF1LON/p from JO33QR. This time I took my IC-9700 + Arrow antenne for satellit operartion with me and my X-6100 + EndFed Antenna for HF. In total 46 QSOs were made on RS-44 with 21 DXCCs and 38 different grids. Also a couple of QSOs were done in the weekly OK1WC contest and the July VHF/UHF contest. During our vacation we had sunny days with up to 24° degrees but also a lot of windy days with windspeeds +110km/h. Operation time was limited on those many windy days. BTW: I never had the chance to setup my 10m glasfiber pole for HF as intially planed. |

2021 IOTA EU-047 Borkum
Short activiy for the 2021 IOTA Contest from Borkum EU-047 during our 2 weeks family vacation. I operated from our beach chair close to the water front with a TS-480 (50w) and a trap wire GP for 40m/20m/15m/10m. Operating time was limited to 2hours because I used a batterie to power my equipment. I was QRV on Saturday evening after dinner and sunday morning after breakfast. Not so many IOTA multis collected as I was calling 90% CQ. |

New solar optimizers
Since a couple of years we have solar panels on our roof. Each solar
panel
is connected to a solar optimizer to improve the overall efficiency.This is how the spectrum from 12MHz to 25MHz looks like on my RX magnetic loop 10m away from the house during daytime with solar optimizers. There is a peak every 200kHz and a higher noice level.
I got in contact with the solar vendor support. They immediately unterstood my issue but still it took more than 2 years until the old optimizers were replaced by newer optimiziers. In addition ferrit cores are added to the power cables. The peaks are gone now and the noice floor is dropped by 10-20db.

4ele HB9CV for 6m
Since some time I own a 2ele HB9CV for 6m. It did some great job in past as a portable setup in JO61hg. Now it was time to have some more gain. In the internet I found the assembly instruction for the 2ele. I was surprised to read that there is also a 4ele version available.
The only differences are:
- 2 more elements
- longer boom
- 4db more gain

2008 WPX CW MJ0LON
After I joined during the past years several multi operations for the major CW contests, it was time again to do some Single Op effort. So the Idea grow be QRV as Single OP for the CQ WPX CW 2008 competition, destination: Jersey (MJ)How to get to Jersey:
Jersey is one of the Channel Island between France and U.K. As it
is an Island there are only two options to reach our destination: by
see or by air. By air would mean to travel to London Heathrow first,
than change to London Gatwik and fly to Jersey. All in all about 8h-9h.
A car journey would take us also about 8h-9h to the ferry port in St.
Malo (France) plus about 1,5h for the ferry transfer to Jersey. The
total costs were a few Euros cheaper for the car/ferry transport and we
were able to take as much as we needed with us. So the car ferry
combination was our favorite way of travel.
On the way towards Jersey:
We, Sabine and I, left Duesseldorf around 2:00 UTC at the 29th May2008 towards St. Malo as we had planed to be there around 10-11UTC. The check-in time for the Ferry would end at 14:45 UTC so we had about 3-4h of additional buffer for any possible traffic jams. I had set the cruise control to 120km/h and with two stops (one for breakfast and one to refuel the car) we were at 10:00 UTC close to St. Malo.
Our third stop was our first sight seening visit and the only one in France: Le Mont Saint Michel

Around 14:30 UTC we arrived at the Ferry Port in St. Malo, about 1h before our Catamaran Ferry would leave towards Jersey. These Catamaran Ferry's manage the 60km to St. Helier on Jersey in about 75min.
WPX CW Contest 2008
The Jersey Clubstation, GJ2A, is situated in an old german second world war bunker at the south west end of Jersey.

Sightseeing Jersey 2008:
On Monday and Tuesday after the WPX CW Contest we did some sightseeing around Jersey. There is plenty to see and we were not able to do everything we had planed.

2007 IOTA EU-047 Borkum
This year we visited Borkum EU-047 (DID N-001) for the IOTA 2007
competition. Sabine (my YL) and I were on the island from 26th July to
30th July. The main focus was a short holiday and the IOTA Contest.
Location was on one of the camping places were we set up our tent with the glasfiber tower.

Ant: 9m GP + SG230 Tuner, 4x10m Radials somewhere on the sandy ground.
It was planed to use a carbattery as power supply. Luckely we were able to use 230V power as our tent was on a place designed for caravans.

I made also about 200 QSOs on Friday on
17m/30m in CW.
The weather was not perfect. Especially
during the nights we had very strong winds and a lot of rain. The only
realy sunny day was Saturday were I took these pictures.
